The 2021 BMW 5 Series offers upscaled styling with plenty of power under the hood. With several powertrain options that include the BMW TwinTurbo, drivers can choose from a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder, a peppy V6, an impressive V8, and an electric-hybrid model.

Each model comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available on the xDrive models. The 530i gets a respectable EPA-estimated fuel-economy of 25 MPG city and 33 MPG highway. The 540i gets an EPA-estimated 25/32 MPG.

The 5 Series comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes. Drivers can access the manual modes with the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Launch Control adds an extra boost off the line. Moving from the 530i to the 540i drops an entire second off of the 0-60 MPH speed.

Exceptional Tech Features

The 2021 BMW 5 Series comes standard with notable tech features. Each model comes standard with the Connected Package Professional with Real-Time Traffic, On-Street Parking Availability, and Hazard Preview. The package also includes BMW Remote Services like Stolen Vehicle Recovery, Remote Door Unlock, and Concierge Services. With a simple “Hey, BMW…” you can access several features like the navigation and sound systems.

The 2021 upgrade includes a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a coordinating information display that includes iDrive 7.0 that allows access via voice, touchscreen, and the touchpad controller. Each 5 Series sedan comes with navigation, Bluetooth^®, and two USB ports.

Additional tech features include Dynamic Cruise Control, adjustable ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers, and a two-way power glass moonroof.

Trim Levels

The 530i comes standard with the TwinTurbo 4-cylinder and the 540i comes with the TwinTurbo inline 6-cylinder. For those who like a pleasant engine hum, the 6-cylinder will make you smile. If you want all-wheel drive, then choose any trim with xDrive, like the 540i xDrive.

If you want an electric-hybrid system, look for the 530e, with or without the xDrive feature. If you are looking for serious power and performance, the M550i xDrive offers a V8, AWD, and extra sport-tuned options.

When you choose a 5 Series with xDrive, you get the benefits of all-wheel drive, but in a uniquely BMW way. The luxury automaker uses an all-wheel drivetrain that transfers the power to the front and rear axle when needed to maximize power, performance, and fuel economy.

Options

The 2021 5 Series specials include notable options. Each 5 Series comes with three option upgrades in featured packages. The Convenience package includes heated front seats, a remote engine start, and a power tailgate. The Premium and Executive packages include features like a heads-up display, BMW’s gesture control, wireless charging, and the Harman Kardon^® 16-speaker sound system.

Drivers can also add a few other options to their 5 Series model. They include the Parking Assistance Package, Luxury Seating Package, and the Shadowline Package.

Safety Features

The 2021 model comes with several standard safety features. Each 5 Series comes with Programmable LED Daytime Running Lights, Automatic High Beams, and Icon Adaptive Full LED Headlights for optimal views on the road.

Along with exceptional LED headlights, each 5 Series comes with Active Driver Assistant with Frontal Collision Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, and Speed Limit Information. The Driving Assistance Plus Package includes Traffic Jam Assist, Steering and Lane Control Assist, and Emergency Stop Assist.
